CONVENTION NEWS

Belt cincher 2009

Hey, we know times are tough!  We feel it here at the Association too.  We don't even have a host company this year (for the first time ever)!  BUT FEAR NOT!  My belly may be round, but I know how to tighten the belt and get the best bang for the buck.  This year's 51st annual convention will see PRICES SLASHED or held to the same as last year.  EVERYONE will reap the discounts and hopefully we can see many more telco employees come because of it.

Hotel rooms are reduced or are the same price as last year!    MAKE RESERVATIONS!

bullet

Lake Tower - Run of the House - $129

bullet

Mountain Tower -  Run of the House - $99

Convention Registration is SLASHED to $250.  No frills, but still the same good food and environment.    We'll just recover our costs, so we hope you ADVERTISE by becoming one of our sponsors!

Exhibitors will pay the same exhibitor fee as last year, but ALL EXHIBITORS will have Internet Access at NO ADDITIONAL COST in the exhibit hall!

The Golf Tournament is at a new location at a reduced rate.  Still the wonderful folks at Genoa Lakes...but this time at the Resort Course rather than the Lakes Course.  Full buffet lunch and prizes included.

The non-golf event will be a fabulous gondola experience at reduced rates.  You'll love it!

Registration packets are being printed now and will be available mid-June.   Keep an eye out for your registration in the mail, or keep checking back at our CONVENTION page to register online.

FCC Issues Order on Local Number Portability

During its May 13th open meeting the FCC unanimously approved a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking requiring all telecommunications carriers to complete simple wireline-to-wireline and simple intermodal ports within one business day.  The requirement will go into effect for small carriers 15 months after the North American Numbering Council developes a new LNP provisioning process flow.  You can view the Order here.

WTA - Others Comment on High-Cost USF for Non-Rural Carriers

On Friday, May 8th, WTA joined NECA, OPASTCO, NTCA and ERTA in filing comments at the FCC in response to the FCC requesting that interested parties refresh the record on the issue of high-cost universal service fund support for non-rural carriers.  The comments urge the FCC to maintain its existing policy of recognizing critical differences between rural telephone companies and non-rural carriers.  Any determinations made in this proceeding with respect to non-rural universal service mechanisms should not negatively impact support mechanisms for rural, rate of return-regulated telephone companies.  View comments here.
